June Recap

  • Posted on June 30, 2010 at 11:11 pm

I thought when the kids got out of school that I’d have more time to myself. I thought wrong. Instead, I was busier than ever. So, what have I been doing?

  • My oldest son graduated from high school with honors. *woot*
  • My Guy had a large lipoma removed from his back. It’s noncancerous and we hope it doesn’t come back. He’s on the mend and feeling so much better. It was the size of a softball and mostly inside. I’d post a picture of his back pre-op but then he’d have to kill me.
  • My youngest son acquired pneumonia. This is a new ailment for me to deal with. I’m not liking it one bit. He’s on the mend, slow and steady, but how do you keep an 11 year old in the house when he’s extremely active and there are things to do–not to mention it’s warm out there? I’m just thankful they didn’t admit him into the hospital. I’ll forego the sleep and the lack of a life to keep him comfortable, after all, that is my job.
  • Two of my very dear friends are rocking the reviews and the best-seller lists with their Carina Press releases. Congrats to Dee and Shannon!
  • Oh and another one of my friends sold to Carina Press. I’m waiting impatiently for her to say something on her blog.

How was your June? How about your summer? Oh, and can you believe in ten more days I’m going to be the big 4-0? I can’t. ;)

“Along Came A Husband” by Helen Brenna

  • Posted on June 16, 2010 at 3:40 pm

I’ll admit it right off the bat that I am addicted to this Mirabelle Island series to the point where I cannot get enough of the Island and the characters. So, imagine my delight when “Along Came A Husband” came out. (An aside, if you buy the books on eHarlequin.com, you can get them a month early.) I only recently discovered Helen Brenna as an author, but man, she snagged me, hooked me and then reeled me in. Here’s the cover, which I love and the blurb and then I’ll try to explain why I loved this book too!

Along Came a Husband

by Helen Brenna

Missy Charms just got the shock of her life. The man she thought was dead has turned up on her doorstep.

Her ex-husband—Jonas Abel.

Four years ago, Missy Charms fell hard for Jonas. But his FBI job always came first. Missy only wanted—still wants—a home and family. Jonas isn’t husband material, not even close. And now his latest undercover mission has trailed him to Mirabelle Island. With both their lives on the line, Missy knows she’s been fooling herself. She loves Jonas as much as she ever did—maybe more. His return also means finally admitting the truth: she can’t lose him again….

Have I mentioned that I love reunion stories? I do. Maybe a little too much. Again, there’s just something about second chances that grip my heart a little tighter. This one doesn’t fail to disappoint. I also loved that their reunion couldn’t be fixed by one conversation, that their history and problems were deep and rooted and needed some soul-searching on both their parts to bring them back together. Both of them have secrets and yet the sexual chemistry between them keeps bringing them back together. However, sometimes sex, no matter how great it is, is never enough. You have to have love, honesty, trust…This book encompasses all of that. I love too that this is a series and I got a glimpse of some of the past characters I grew to know and love.

“Tempting The Enemy” by Dee Tenorio

  • Posted on June 15, 2010 at 5:27 pm

Two of my dear friends were launch authors for Carina Press this month. I’ve known Dee Tenorio for a little longer than I’ve known Shannon and Dee and I share a responsibility in that we’re both Hosts for eHarlequin.com. I’ve met Dee in person several times and have been known to make her fall of beds with my peals of laughter. All of that aside, it’s again been my pleasure to watch her blossom and grow into the writer she is. Dee also knows that if I don’t like something she writes, I’m not afraid to tell her and I expect the same from her. We might not always like it, but we respect it and it works for us. :)

Dee’s latest book is available from Carina Press. This is also where I tell you that I’m usually not a huge fan of anything paranormal or um, scary. I’m a wimp to the 100th degree. I still have nightmares about the movie The Ring and can still see the out-of-body-experience I had crab-crawling up the back of my couch full on screaming. I scared my fiance’ more than the movie did and I refused to go to sleep that night. But before I tell you why I LOVED this book enough to stay up until after 2 am, let me share the official cover and blurb with you.

Tempting the Enemy by Dee Tenorio

Detective Pale Rysen, an Alpha, is determined to secretly rebuild the Wolf packs from the ashes of genocide. When a killer starts picking off young females looking for sanctuary, it’s his job to protect them. Forced to work with a hated enemy, he fears his cover will be blown.

Jade-Scarlet’s membership in the powerful Order of the Sibile has always been controversial. A half-wolf, Jade’s unstable psychic powers are a disappointment to her mercenary handlers. So when the Oracle commands her to work with Pale, Jade must prove herself…even if it means challenging the enigmatic shifter.

Yet Pale triggers more than her curiosity. He sends her into Heat, and the intense sexual attraction could mean losing control of her gifts—something she can’t allow. As the number of victims rises, so does the danger. A murderous darkness wants them both dead. But even if they stop the killer, how long can they fight each other.

First, I’ll say that this book had my heart thumping as I furiously ( well as furiously as the Sony would allow ) flipped the pages. I started this at around 11 pm and finally, begrudgingly put it down after 2 am when my eyes would take no more. I had strange dreams of wolves and of colors…you’ll have to read the book to find out why….I had to finish this book today. I had to know what happened and more importantly how these two people could get their HEA. This book rocked! It’s packed full of adrenaline, suspense, Alpha-ness, romance and well…chair wiggling sexual tension. Dee Tenorio has outdone herself. I only have one question for her: Will she be doing another book like this?

“Exclusively Yours” by Shannon Stacey

  • Posted on June 14, 2010 at 2:49 pm

I’ve known Shannon Stacey virtually for about ten years. We’ve never met in person, but someday I hope too. She’s been my inspiration, my rock and my friend ( except for when the Patriots and Steelers are playing ) and in the last few years it’s been my absolute pleasure to watch her blossom and grow as an author.

Her latest book, “Exclusively Yours” is now available as an ebook from Carina Press and for what it’s worth, this is my favorite Shannon Stacey book thus far. But let me show you the fabulous cover and book blurb before I attempt to give this book the credit it deserves.

Exclusively Yours
Contemporary romance

When Keri Daniels’ editor finds out she has previous carnal knowledge of reclusive bestselling author Joe Kowalski, she gives Keri a choice: get an interview or get a new job.Joe’s never forgotten the first girl to break his heart, so he’s intrigued to hear Keri’s back in town—and looking for him. Despite his intense need for privacy, he’ll grant Keri an interview if it means a chance to finish what they started in high school.

He proposes an outrageous plan—for every day she survives with his family on their annual camping and four-wheeling trip, Keri can ask one question. Keri agrees; she’s worked too hard to walk away from her career.

But the chemistry between them is still as potent as the bug spray, Joe’s sister is out to avenge his broken heart and Keri hasn’t ridden an ATV since she was ten. Who knew a little blackmail, a whole lot of family and some sizzling romantic interludes could make Keri reconsider the old dream of Keri & Joe 2gether 4ever.

One of my favorite subgenres of Contemporary Romance is a reunion story.  For me,  it’s the hope of rekindling romance with the one who got away and making it work the second time around. Keri and Joe’s is a reunion, only this time, it’s the hero who’s still pined for the heroine. He was drowning his sorrows instead of the other way around and I think for me, that’s why this book really worked. Not to mention the fact that Shannon Stacey is hilarious, witty and charming and her books showcase that–especially this one! This book had me from the very first words to the last and I even got a little misty-eyed. The chemistry between Keri and Joe was smoking hot and the secondary characters didn’t bog down the story, they enhanced it. I also loved the glimpses into Joe’s sister and Keri’s nemesis, Terry and I cannot wait to read Joe’s brother Kevin’s story!

So, if you’re looking for a feel-good book, with plenty of sexual tension, loads of laughs and a big, meddling family to counterbalance everything and enhance it, then this is the book for you! I agree with whoever said it, I love Shannon’s other books, but I really love her contemporary romances!
